re Morphia, Opium, &c.

That this Conference, believing that Morphia, Opium, and its derivatives, continue to be smuggled into China, and that the difficulty for stopping the illicit traffic is immense, respectfully urges the Government to take over without delay the control of the three British morphia factories, and to give orders for the reduction of the poppy cultivation in India, so that the production of these drugs may be strictly confined to medicinal preparations.

The above Resolution was moved, seconded, and unanimously adopted at a recent Conference of the Ayrshire District Union, of the British Women's Temperance Association, held in Kilmarnock; and also adopted by Executive of same, met in Kilmarnock on 17th June.
